Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portions of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, monitor temperatures, and document as required.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with food prep, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and pots.
  • Assist with food storage, labeling, and leftovers management.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
