Responsibilities

• Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Manage portion control of food items.
• Ensure safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or safety concerns, including defective machinery or equipment, to management, and follow established safety procedures.
• Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
• Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for ware washing.
• Observe time limits for meal serving and maintain foods at proper temperatures.
• Assist Cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparation.
• Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
• Assist with daily prep tasks as per the Prep List.
• Properly store and label dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Check and document temperatures and taste of items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation, rotating stock, and monitoring expiry dates.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
• Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.

Requirements

• Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
• Hold a Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
• Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Be capable of moderate to heavy lifting.
• Stand for long periods.
• Have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
• Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
