Responsibilities
  1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  2. Manage portion control of food items.
  3. Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or concerns, and follow established safety procedures.
  4. Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machine, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  5. Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
  6. Observe time limits for meal serving and maintain proper food temperatures.
  7. Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  8. Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils according to procedures.
  9. Assist with daily prep tasks as per the detailed Prep List.
  10. Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  11. Check and document temperatures and taste of foods, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation, rotating stock, and monitoring expiry dates.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  13. Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
  14. Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environment.
  15. Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  16. Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
