Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pots, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
- Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe meal time limits.
- Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple dishes like breakfast items and desserts.
- Clear plates, load dishwashers, and clean utensils and cookware per procedures.
- Support in storing and labeling dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation, stock rotation, and expiry monitoring.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
- Follow departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and ongoing education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Hold a valid Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
