Responsibilities

  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pots, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe meal time limits.
  • Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple dishes like breakfast items and desserts.
  • Clear plates, load dishwashers, and clean utensils and cookware per procedures.
  • Support in storing and labeling dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation, stock rotation, and expiry monitoring.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Follow departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and ongoing education programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

  • Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Hold a valid Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
