Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or concerns, and ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow-up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Observe meal serving time limits and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist cooks in preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils according to procedures.
  • Assist with daily prep tasks as per the prep list.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and tastes, following HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
