Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portions of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware pickups for ware washing.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
- Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils according to procedures.
- Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks from the detailed prep list.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document temperatures and taste of foods, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in facility meetings and in-service education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
