Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Ensure safety precautions are followed; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal service time limits.
  • Assist Cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic breakfast items or desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils.
  • Assist with daily prep work as per the Prep List.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  • Experience in kitchen or food service setting preferred.
