Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your assigned area and report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dishware for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal serving times.
  • Assist cooks in preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic breakfast items or desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware as per procedures.
  • Support prep work according to daily prep lists.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures and tastes, ensuring compliance with HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
  • Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
