Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Serve food within designated time limits, maintaining proper serving temperatures.
  • Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple foods.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
  • Help with daily prep work and detailed prep lists.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and monitor expiry dates and stock rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
