Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware collection for cleaning.
- Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe meal service time limits.
- Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple dishes like breakfast items and desserts.
- Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils as per procedures.
- Support prep cooks with daily tasks from the prep list.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers, monitor food temperatures, and ensure food safety standards like HACCP are met.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, utensils, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Hold a valid Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position / Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
