- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portions of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
- Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
- Assist with daily prep tasks according to the Prep List.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and other standards.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
