Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portions of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Assist with daily prep tasks according to the Prep List.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and other standards.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
