Responsibilities
  1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  2. Manage portion control of food items.
  3. Ensure safety precautions in your area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and follow safety procedures.
  4. Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  5. Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
  6. Observe time limits for meal service and maintain proper food temperatures.
  7. Assist cooks in preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  8. Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
  9. Assist with daily prep tasks as per the prep list.
  10. Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  11. Check and document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure documentation and proper stock rotation.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  13. Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  14. Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
  15. Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  16. Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  17. Perform other duties as directed by your supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service environment.
