- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of appliances, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dishware and utensils.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and simple desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Assist with food storage, labeling, and inventory management, including leftovers.
- Monitor food temperatures and quality, document findings, and take corrective actions as needed, following HACCP guidelines.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Prepare for catering events, including setting up linens, equipment, and decorations.
- Follow departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
