Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dish collection for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits.
  • Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils as per procedures.
  • Support prep work as per daily prep lists.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and tastes, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and sanitized.
  • Set up catering events with linens, equipment, and customer requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and in-service education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
