- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dish collection for ware washing.
- Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits.
- Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils as per procedures.
- Support prep work as per daily prep lists.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document food temperatures and tastes, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and sanitized.
- Set up catering events with linens, equipment, and customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and in-service education.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
