Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portions of food items.
  • Follow safety protocols, report unsafe conditions or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate and monitor equipment like dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers, documenting temperatures as required.
  • Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including handling dirty dishes.
  • Serve meals within appropriate timeframes and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast or dessert items.
  • Clear plates, load dishwashers, and clean kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Help with food storage, labeling, and inventory, including leftovers.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, taking corrective actions as needed, following HACCP guidelines.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas and equipment.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, tableware, and special requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
