Responsibilities

• Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Manage portion control of food items.
• Ensure safety precautions in your area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and follow safety procedures.
• Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
• Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
• Observe time limits for meal service and maintain proper food temperatures.
• Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple foods like breakfast items and desserts.
• Clear plates and trays, load and operate the dishwasher, and clean pots and utensils as per procedures.
• Assist with daily prep tasks using the Prep List.
• Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
• Check and document temperatures and taste of food, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions if needed.
• Ensure equipment and work areas are cleaned and sanitized properly.
• Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
• Follow departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
• Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
• Participate in meetings and training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
• Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
• Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
• Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
