- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware collection for cleaning.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal service time limits.
- Assist Cooks in preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic breakfast items and desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils following procedures.
- Support Cooks with daily prep tasks as per the Prep List.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document food temperatures and quality, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and sanitized.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and ongoing education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Hold a valid Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Capable of moderate to heavy lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
