Responsibilities
  1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  2. Manage portion control of food items.
  3. Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to established safety procedures.
  4. Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and perform necessary follow-up.
  5. Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for ware washing.
  6. Observe time limits for meal service and maintain proper serving temperatures.
  7. Assist cooks in preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparation.
  8. Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots and pans as per procedures.
  9. Assist with daily prep list tasks and proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and leftovers.
  10. Check and document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions if necessary, and ensure proper documentation, stock rotation, and expiry monitoring.
  11. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  12. Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
  13. Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control.
  14. Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  15. Participate in facility meetings and in-service education programs.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
