Responsibilities

1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
2. Manage portion control of food items.
3. Ensure safety precautions in your area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and follow safety procedures.
4. Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pots, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers, with appropriate follow-up.
5. Deliver catering to hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
6. Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal service time limits.
7. Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple foods and desserts.
8. Clear plates, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils as per procedures.
9. Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks.
10. Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
11. Check and document temperatures and tastes of food items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure documentation and proper stock rotation.
12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
13. Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
14. Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
15. Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
16. Participate in meetings and ongoing education programs.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
• Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
• Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
• Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
• Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
