Responsibilities
  1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  2. Manage portion control of food items.
  3. Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to established safety procedures.
  4. Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  5. Deliver catering to hospital locations, including pick-up of dirty dishes for washing.
  6. Observe meal serving time limits and maintain proper food temperatures.
  7. Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic breakfast items, desserts, and garnishes.
  8. Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils per procedure.
  9. Assist with daily prep tasks as per the Prep List.
  10. Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  11. Check and document food temperatures and tastes, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  13. Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  14. Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, etc.
  15. Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  16. Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS) within the last 6 months.
  • Experience in kitchen or food service setting preferred.
