Responsibilities

• Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Manage portion control of food items.
• Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or concerns, and ensure equipment safety.
• Operate and document temperature controls for equipment like pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware collection.
• Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
• Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic desserts.
• Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and cookware.
• Assist with prep work according to detailed lists and participate in proper storage and labeling of food and supplies.
• Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation.
• Ensure sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
• Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
• Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Assemble nourishment carts, stock kitchenettes, and participate in meetings and training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
• Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
• Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
• Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
