- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portion sizes of food items.
- Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, monitor temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers, and document as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware for ware washing.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meals.
- Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils per procedures.
- Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure documentation and food safety standards are met.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, utensils, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
