Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, monitor temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers, and document as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meals.
  • Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils per procedures.
  • Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure documentation and food safety standards are met.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, utensils, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
