Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and take follow-up actions as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dish collection for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with food prep, including salads, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items, desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean cookware and utensils.
  • Support prep work with daily tasks as per the Prep List.
  • Properly store, label, and manage leftovers and dietary supplies.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure documentation and food safety standards are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, tableware, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
