Responsibilities
  1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  2. Manage portion control of food items.
  3. Ensure safety precautions in your area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and follow safety procedures.
  4. Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  5. Deliver catering to hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
  6. Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal service time limits.
  7. Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food items.
  8. Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils.
  9. Help with food storage, labeling, and monitoring expiry dates, ensuring high-quality ingredients are used.
  10. Check and document food temperatures and taste, initiate corrective actions if needed, and document accordingly.
  11. Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  12. Set up catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  13. Follow departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
  14. Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  15. Participate in meetings and training sessions.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  2. Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
  3. Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  4. Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  5. Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  6. Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
