- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware for ware washing.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with cleaning and preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots and utensils as per procedures.
- Assist with daily prep tasks according to the Prep List.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers, monitor food temperatures, and ensure food safety standards are met, including HACCP guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
