Job description

At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team and celebrating achievements creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential. As a valued member of our culinary team, you will assist with plating and serving meals and will be responsible for cleaning serving areas, as well as equipment.

This position is for our Van Daele Home, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

What you’ll be doing

1. Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature. Follows basic instructions in preparing simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
2. Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
3. Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
4. Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
5. Assembles nourishment carts and stocks unit.
6. Participates in facility meetings as assigned and attends in-service education programs.
7. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

What you bring

1. Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Fixing the Long-Term Care Act required.
2. Current Food Handler’s Certificate.
3. Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) Home 0-1 year(s).
4. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
5. Ability to read and write English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
6. Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
7. Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
8. Successful candidates must be available for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
