The Dietary Aide reports to the Food Service Manager/Food Service Supervisor and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by preparing meals directed by the cook for individual residents and by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Responsibilities
  1. Participate in departmental and town hall meetings.
  2. Receives verbal/written endorsement regarding changes in resident status.
  3. Ensures open communication between staff and other team members.
  4. Encourage participation in the Home’s committees/teams.
  5. Reports observations to Food Service Manager/Supervisor relating to resident care and others (food preferences, likes & dislikes, intake).
  6. Mentoring new staff and students.
  7. Support and promote a team approach.
  8. Ongoing delivery of customer service with staff, residents, families, and the general public.
  9. Ensuring optimal quality of life for each resident by the delivery of individualized resident care.
  10. Report faulty equipment and ensure removal from unit.
  11. Completion of documentation record of every shift (food temperature, freezer, fridge, sanitizer, dish machine, equipment checklist audit).
  12. Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported. To participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
  13. Utilize equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints.
  14. Other duties as assigned and or indicated Job Task Inventory.
Qualifications
  1. Preference given to candidates that have successfully completed or are enrolled in a Food Service Worker program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a Food Services Worker program provided by a private career college (preferred).
  2. Or have successfully completed an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; (preferred).
  3. Or have entered into a registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; (preferred).
  4. Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home, appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service to perform the duties required of the position.
  5. Food Handler Certification given by Public Health or a certified agency.
  6. Previous Institutional Dietary Service Experience is Preferred.
  7. Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments.
  8. Able to work flexible hours, such as emergency situations.
  9. Be knowledgeable of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Public Health and Home’s rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  10. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  11. Good interpersonal skills.
  12. To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  13. To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
  14. Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or a chest X-ray (within the last 1 year).
  15. Two supervisory references required.
  16. Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
