Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your area, report unsafe conditions or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of appliances, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including handling dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate the dishwasher, and clean cookware and utensils.
  • Help with food storage, labeling, and managing leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and taste of food, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions if needed.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, tableware, and special requests.

Requirements

  • Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Hold a Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capable of moderate to heavy lifting and standing for long periods.
  • Have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
