Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portion sizes of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including handling dirty dishes.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures during service.
  • Assist Cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food items.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and cookware.
  • Assist with food prep according to the daily prep list.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are cleaned and sanitized.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting preferred.
