Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Ensure safety precautions in your area, report unsafe incidents or safety concerns, including defective machinery or equipment, to management, and follow safety protocols.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot washes, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
  • Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
  • Assist with daily prep tasks according to the Prep List.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure documentation and proper stock rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
Requirements
  • Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
