Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Ensure safety precautions in the assigned area; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
- Operate equipment safely, documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for ware washing.
- Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
- Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils following procedures.
- Assist with daily prep tasks as per the prep list.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers, and monitor expiry dates.
- Check and document temperatures and taste of food, initiate corrective actions for unsatisfactory quality, and ensure proper documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environment.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and in-service education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
