- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Control portions of food items.
- Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including dish pickup for cleaning.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal time limits.
- Assist cooks with food prep, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple foods.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and pots.
- Assist with food storage, labeling, and inventory, including leftovers.
- Monitor food temperatures and quality, document findings, and take corrective actions as needed, following HACCP guidelines.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and decorations.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service environment.
