Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portions of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including dish pickup for cleaning.
  • Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal time limits.
  • Assist cooks with food prep, including salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple foods.
  • Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and pots.
  • Assist with food storage, labeling, and inventory, including leftovers.
  • Monitor food temperatures and quality, document findings, and take corrective actions as needed, following HACCP guidelines.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and decorations.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service environment.
