- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, monitor temperatures of equipment like dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers, and document as necessary.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dishware appropriately.
- Maintain proper food serving temperatures and adhere to time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic breakfast items or desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean kitchen utensils and equipment following procedures.
- Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks as per the prep list.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure documentation compliance, including HACCP guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environment.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
