- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for ware washing.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe time limits for meal service.
- Assist cooks with preparing uncooked foods, salads, vegetables, fruits, and simple breakfast items or desserts.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils following procedures.
- Assist with daily prep work as per the Prep List.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and document temperatures and taste of food items, initiate corrective actions if needed, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health Department.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
