Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to their diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety procedures, report unsafe conditions or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dirty dishes for warewashing.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures during service.
  • Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items, desserts, and garnishes following basic instructions.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean cookware.
  • Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks.
  • Properly store, label, and manage dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and record food temperatures and quality, follow HACCP guidelines, and document corrective actions.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are cleaned and sanitized.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on safety, quality, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
