- Serve food to residents according to their diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Follow safety procedures, report unsafe conditions or equipment issues to management.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations and handle dirty dishes for warewashing.
- Maintain proper food temperatures during service.
- Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items, desserts, and garnishes following basic instructions.
- Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean cookware.
- Support prep cooks with daily prep tasks.
- Properly store, label, and manage dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Check and record food temperatures and quality, follow HACCP guidelines, and document corrective actions.
- Ensure equipment and work areas are cleaned and sanitized.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and customer requests.
- Adhere to departmental policies on safety, quality, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handler Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
