Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Ensure safety precautions in assigned areas; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations and handle dishware for ware washing.
  • Maintain proper food serving temperatures and observe meal time limits.
  • Assist cooks with preparing salads, vegetables, fruits, and basic breakfast or dessert items.
  • Clear plates and trays, load dishwashers, and clean utensils and cookware.
  • Support prep work according to the daily Prep List.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document food temperatures and quality, following HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and ongoing education programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
