Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Control portions of food items.
  • Ensure safety precautions in the assigned area, report unsafe incidents or safety concerns, including defective machinery or equipment.
  • Operate equipment safely, monitor temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
  • Deliver catering to hospital locations, including pick-up of dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Observe time limits for meal serving and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist Cooks in preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Assist with daily prep list as needed.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and tastes of food items, ensuring compliance with HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and customer requests.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health Department.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
  • Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
