Job description

The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals and providing catering services. They ensure work areas are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition and assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  1. Preparing food for residents;
  2. Ensuring resident satisfaction with meal service;
  3. Responding to resident or family concerns and taking appropriate action within decision-making authority or escalating to the Food Services Manager/Food and Beverage Manager;
  4. Performing set-up, serving, and tear-down at catering events;
  5. Communicating effectively with residents, family members, visitors, and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner, projecting a positive image, and focusing on customer service excellence.

The ideal candidates will possess:

  1. Experience in food services within a retirement residence, long-term care, or hospitality environment;
  2. Secondary school education or equivalent;
  3. Food Safe Level 1 Certificate (preferred);
  4. Smart Serve Certificate (preferred);
  5. First Aid Certificate (preferred);
  6. Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions in English;
  7. Empathy and understanding of seniors' needs;
  8. Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
  9. Ability to organize work and operate under strict time constraints.
