Job description

The Dietary Aide plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative and respectful environment within the multidisciplinary team. By upholding the Omni Mission, Vision, and Values, and ensuring the Resident Bill of Rights is always practiced, the Dietary Aide helps create a supportive atmosphere for both residents and colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Nutritional Care Manager and the Cook to ensure that the requirements of the Fixing Long Term Care Act and Regulations, Accreditation Standards and all Omni standards, policies and procedures are met.
  • Provide information as directed to officials of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Long Term Care Accreditation Canada, Public Health, Registered Dietitian and other consultative and regulatory bodies regarding the organization and operation of the nutritional care department and the nutritional care of the residents of the home.
  • Set up dining room tables for meals; clear tables following meals.
  • Clean kitchen and dining areas and kitchen waste removal in accordance with work assignments.
  • Always follow appropriate safe food handling and infection control procedures throughout the receiving, storing, thawing and preparation, cooking, holding and serving processes to prevent food borne illness.
  • Assist with the serving of meals and beverages in the dining area. Provide a pleasant dining experience to each resident as per established policies and guidelines.
  • Assist with receiving supplies as directed. Ensure safe food and non-food storage. Ensure all items are accounted for before signing invoices.
  • Ensure each resident has the opportunity to express his/her meal preferences by offering them a visual choice of each meal option prior to service. Accommodate resident requests and/or food preferences
Qualifications and Experience
  • Successful completion of an approved Food Service Worker (FSW) program
  • Current enrollment in an approved Food Service Worker program
  • Valid ‘safe food handling’ certificate from an approved certification
  • Experience working in a kitchen
  • Experience working in health care
