The Opportunity
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Lead Manager of Food Services, the Diet Office Clerk (DOC) is responsible for maintaining patient information related to meal services by following established procedures. The DOC will be the liaison between all Food Services operations at Carewest. Key duties include preparing financial reports, processing food preferences, allergies, intolerances, and meal tallies, as well as managing menus and tray tickets. The DOC will also ensure effective communication with other departments regarding patient meals, snacks, and nourishment supplies.
This position requires the ability to bend, lift, and push items weighing up to 20 lbs. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating speed, accuracy, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in high-stress situations. Critical thinking, initiative, and strong communication skills in English are essential for interacting with co-workers and other departments. The successful candidate will be a professional team player, dedicated to providing exceptional client- and family-centered care. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Proficiency with software in a Windows XP environment, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Knowledge of clinical therapeutic diets is essential.
- Experience with Epic software is required, and familiarity with MealSuite is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills are mandatory, as ongoing communication with other clinical team members, including Dietitians, Registered Nurses (RNs), and Food Services Managers (FSMs), will be a daily part of the role to ensure accurate therapeutic diet orders.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a Health Care Food Services environment.
- Proven ability to follow through on issues, action plans, and decisions, utilizing appropriate monitoring systems to ensure follow-up.
- Strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated positive customer service skills and professional telephone etiquette.
- Ability to problem-solve effectively.
- Capable of performing a variety of duties with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and competence in time-management.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.
- Successful completion of a basic typing test confirming a minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute with accuracy.
- Completion of a basic mathematical test during the interview process.
- Completion of a basic attention-to-detail skills test during the interview process.
