Diesel Truck Technician / Mechanic II (3rd-5th Year Apprentice Program)

Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm

Pay: $32.80 - $35.00 per hour

Shift Premium: $3.00 for 2nd Shift, $4.00 for 3rd Shift

A Penske Technician II assists in the overhaul of major components or removes/replaces major components under supervision. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing systems such as clutches, PTO, electric, hydraulic, air brake, HVAC, instruments, gauges, and performing preventative maintenance.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair engines, powertrain, electrical, HVAC, steering, electronics, brakes, suspension, and other major components.
  • Perform mechanical reconditioning and prepare equipment for trade-ins or delivery.
  • Identify parts needed for repairs and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Road test vehicles and use hand and power tools for repairs.
  • Inspect and verify safety and operational standards.
  • Specialize in troubleshooting major components like engines, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of practical tractor-trailer maintenance experience.
  • Enrolled in an apprentice program and maintaining registration.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a 310T license or automotive background.
  • Proficiency with shop tools, valid driver’s license (G or 5), and ability to obtain DZ license within 6 months.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work in non-climate-controlled conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must lift/move up to 45kg with accommodations if needed.
  • Ability to see clearly, including close, distance, peripheral, and focus adjustments.
  • Regularly stand, walk, sit, and use hands for handling tools and reaching.
