Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience operating an isolated diesel plant.
  • Knowledge of regulations and safety rules is essential.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.
  • DSR Training Program must be completed with progression based on training results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic electrical/mechanical plant repairs and housekeeping.
  • Handle customer service tasks such as meter reading and related paperwork.
  • Maintain records and ensure safety and environmental compliance.

Diesel System Representative (Trainee)

GENERAL DUTIES

Functions as the controlling authority for the isolated diesel plant. Reviews and requests work to be performed on the isolated diesel plant and distribution systems. Provides isolation for work crews as required in order to guarantee safety. Operates diesel powered generators, including starting engines and adjusting controls for desired operating speed; checks temperature and pressure gauges to ensure proper functioning of lubrication and cooling systems; monitors the operation and output; lubricates bearings and mechanical parts, makes minor adjustments and performs normal housekeeping duties. Responsible for all record keeping and overall responsibility for the plant. Performs basic limited line and electrical/mechanical repairs to plant equipment. Responsible for customer service functions such as meter reading, meter removal, accounts receivable, collections and all associated paperwork. All other duties related to or associated with this classification.

Responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the Corporation's Safety and Health Program. Responsible for any environmental aspects of the job and performing work in an environmentally responsible manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation. Completion of entry-level courses in the electrical, heavy-duty repair, power engineering or marine diesel fields or an equivalent combination of experience and training and a minimum of one year experience operating an isolated diesel plant. Shall have a thorough knowledge of all regulations and safety rules. May be required to possess an appropriate valid driver’s license. Knowledge of line work and work protection code a definite asset. Successful applicants will be required to complete the Corporation’s DSR Training Program with progression contingent upon satisfactory completion of the assigned components of the training program.

NOTE: DSR’s who wish to be considered for a lateral transfer may also apply on this position.
