Job description

The successful candidate will participate as a member of the Hydro Mechanical Services Team and perform advanced Journeyperson level mechanical work and system diagnostics in support of diesel generation and hydro generation, as well as associated balance of plant equipment including but not limited to compressors, heat exchangers, oil and fuel systems, tools, governors, and mobile equipment.

The successful candidate shall always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of other employees, contractors, and the general public in the workplace by: reporting any failure to adhere to safety practices or rules, providing detailed orientations and hazard identifications to visitors, removing hazards or making the workplace safe when leaving a work area.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety and Environment programs, as well as NTPC’s safety culture.
  • Participate in team meetings to determine generation program objectives, provide input to group financial and program planning, and assess and coordinate unit workload and priorities.
  • Maintain and repair diesel engines, generators, and auxiliary equipment according to guidelines, acting proactively to recommend improvements.
  • Complete scheduled overhauls timely and professionally, following standards.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs at remote satellite plants, including tests like vibration monitoring and sampling.
  • Complete reports, prepare parts lists, and manage inventory and logistics data within the CMMS system.
  • Assess equipment and troubleshoot mechanical issues on-site and remotely.
  • Assist other trades, guide and train operational staff in troubleshooting large engines.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment, ensure tools and equipment are in good condition, and comply with safety regulations.
  • Provide and receive training within the team and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic with at least three years’ experience in an industrial or commercial setting; equivalents may be considered.
  • Valid NWT Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Successful criminal background check required.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, interpret drawings and manuals, and propose solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.

Salary ranges from $45.15/hr to $54.86/hr, plus an annual location allowance of approximately $6,184. Benefits include health and dental, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days, and a pension plan. Relocation assistance is provided.
