Salary Range: $80,000.00/ year
Employment Term: Contract June – March 31, 2026 (possibility of renewal), Full time hours (35 hours/ week)

General Description:
The Diamond Bailey Healing Centre (DBHC) is a facility operated by the MNFC, and we are looking for one (1) manager. The DBHC, located in central Halifax/Kjipuktuk, offers culturally appropriate programming and residence to urban Indigenous clients experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. The purpose of the Diamond Bailey is to provide clients with the tools and resources necessary to heal, live a balanced lifestyle, and gain housing stability.
The manager will supervise all Coordinators and Staff and ensure that they are provided with a culturally appropriate work environment. It is the Managers responsibility to create and implement policies, procedures, and programming to best help its clients using a trauma informed lense and two-eyed seeing. The DBHC Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, government representatives, and other Indigenous communities and organizations to ensure that DBHC clients are provided with equitable and culturally relevant supports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that program delivery is congruent with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre’s mission, vision, and philosophy by representing the unique needs within the urban Indigenous community.
- Recruit and hire personnel as needed in collaboration with the MNFC Human Resources Department, to ensure client and program needs are continuously being met.
- Maintain a workplace environment that attracts, retains, and motivates staff to meet the cultural and wholistic needs of Indigenous clients.
- Develop and implement the policies, procedures, and protocols of the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre.
- Ensure staff are provided with the information, training, resources, and support necessary to succeed in their roles.
- Ensure a positive, healthy, safe, and culturally vibrant work environment in accordance with all applicable policies, legislature, and regulations.
- Ensure implemented intake process is adequate in representing and prioritizing the unique needs of the urban Indigenous community.
- Provide oversight, assessment, and on-going development of programs and services offered by the DBHC for the urban Indigenous population.
- Compile various reports for MNFC, various funders, stakeholders, and community.
- Establish working relationships and collaborative arrangements with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community groups and funders at the municipal and provincial level in order to uphold the mandate and goals of the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre.
- Represent the DBHC at Indigenous and non-Indigenous community initiatives and gatherings.
- Develop a plan for DBHC staff, and provide ongoing management practices, assessment, guidance, and coaching for the employees.
- Utilize, maintain, and input client information into the MNFC Database.
- Maintain accurate, concise, and current staff and client files according to professional and organizational service standards.
- Practice and maintain a positive leadership role; lead by example with non-judgemental support.
- Support research efforts with developing, implementing, and engaging in the administration of community-based research practices.
- Assist in securing funding for the DBHC operations and programming, and research funding sources; prepare funding proposals for current and new funding opportunities.
- Track DBHC budget and programming costs to ensure accurate spending and record keeping of expenses.
- Show initiative and creativity in developing programs and services that reduce the barriers for the homeless urban Indigenous population, and work toward bettering health and social inclusion practices for Indigenous peoples.
- Network and build relationships with key stakeholders in the areas of housing and social services and actively participate in roundtable industry discussions.
- Attend and participate in professional development opportunities as required.
- Identify and evaluate potential safety, cultural, and health-related risks to clients, staff, property, finances, and the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre image; implement measures to control these risks.
- Keep current with changes in program-specific legislation or policies which impact the DBHC mandate and vision.
- Adhere to all Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre policies.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Diploma/ Certification in community social services, social work, or business administration; or education in mental health and addictions.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and 3 years of project management and supervisory experience; or adequate combinations of education and experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous populations and comprehensive cultural knowledge required.
- Previous experience in mental health, working with alcohol/substance dependency considered an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources, programs, and services including; ESIA, local/provincial housing, subsidy programs, and residential tenancy rights and regulations.
- Demonstrated skills in guiding teams and the development of new practices in working with clients based on models of practice and Indigenous culture.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a part of an interprofessional team.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to represent and respect the interest of clients.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and prove leadership in areas of expertise.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint).
- Successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check), proof of Level C First Aid & Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification as a condition of employment.
- Must possess valid NS Drivers licence, reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance.
