Job description

At Fonemed, we’re redefining how individuals and healthcare organizations connect through secure, cloud-native technology. Our platform supports a wide range of digital health services and solutions, empowering care delivery across the globe.

We’re seeking a DevOps Specialist to join our team and help design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and compliant cloud infrastructure. In this role, you’ll support our global operations and expanding portfolio of digital health solutions. While we operate remotely, the successful applicant must be available to work in the Newfoundland Standard Time (NST / NDT) zone. If you’re passionate about cloud-native architecture, automation, infrastructure as code, and building reliable systems that improve lives, we’d love to connect.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Infrastructure & Cloud Management : Design, build, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like CloudFormation, Serverless Framework or Terraform.
  • Manage compute, storage, networking, and security resources in the cloud.
  • Set up and maintain multi-region, multi-account architectures.

CI / CD & Automation :

  • Create and maintain CI / CD pipelines (e.g., Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
  • Automate build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Ensure rollback and recovery options are in place.

Security & Compliance :

  • Implement cloud security best practices (IAM, encryption, least privilege).
  • Automate security scanning, secrets management, and audit logging.
  • Support compliance with standards like FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC 2.

Monitoring & Reliability :

  • Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog).
  • Perform infrastructure health checks and optimize performance.
  • Support SRE practices like incident response, postmortems, and SLOs.
  • Manage dev, staging, and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure or deployment issues.
  • Improve observability, traceability, and fault tolerance.
  • Work closely with Architects, developers, QA, and product teams.
  • Document infrastructure, deployment practices, and operational runbooks.
  • Educate and empower teams to adopt DevOps practices.

Qualifications :

  • Post-secondary education in Software Development, Computer Science, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Infrastructure roles within SaaS or regulated environments.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer) are a strong asset.
  • Strong proficiency with AWS, including serverless services (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito) and traditional infrastructure (e.g., EC2, RDS, VPC).
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like CloudFormation, Terraform or Serverless Framework.
  • Ability to design and support secure, scalable, multi-tenant cloud environments.
  • Solid understanding of CI / CD automation, preferably with Bitbucket Pipelines or similar tooling.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, SOC 2, and FedRAMP.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools, including Amazon CloudWatch.
  • Exposure to modern application stacks — particularly Node.js, React, or React Native.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative, proactive approach to working in cross-functional teams.
