Job description

Code Wizards Group are world leaders in backend and multiplayer infrastructure for the gaming industry. From high-scale AAA console and PC games to fast-paced mobile indie titles, we empower studios to bring multiplayer experiences to life.

We are looking for a DevOps Manager who is a seasoned DevOps professional and technical leader to help shape the infrastructure behind some of the most exciting games in the world.

This is an opportunity to not only work hands-on with game teams and systems at global scale, but also to drive strategic infrastructure decisions, mentor engineers, and influence best practices across Multiplayer Wizards..

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a technical and strategic leader in the design, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and secure game infrastructure.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to high-profile game studios and publishers, guiding infrastructure decisions, improving performance, and mitigating operational risk.
  • Take ownership of complex, cross-functional incidents, driving resolution and leading postmortems and root cause analysis.
  • Manage, mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
  • Shape and implement best practices across automation, monitoring, observability, and deployment pipelines.
  • Collaborate with internal product and engineering teams to build tools and processes that enhance developer experience and operational resilience.
  • Be an escalation point for critical infrastructure issues, especially during high-visibility launches or outages.
  • Contribute to long-term technical strategy for GameOps, identifying opportunities for innovation, cost savings, and process optimization.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Leadership & Communication

  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives across teams and mentor junior to senior-level engineers.
  • Strong communicator who can build trust with clients and collaborate across engineering, product, and support teams.
  • Comfortable navigating escalations, balancing technical depth with business impact.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep experience with infrastructure automation and orchestration (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes).
  • Expertise in cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux systems administration and performance tuning.
  • Strong scripting or software development background — writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code (Python, Go, Bash, etc.).
  • Familiar with monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, etc.).

Operational Excellence

  • Experience managing production infrastructure at scale, including high-availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Able to lead incident response and root cause analysis with clarity and confidence.
  • Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and release engineering best practices.

Bonus Points For

  • Prior experience in the games industry, especially backend systems for multiplayer or live games.
  • Hands-on knowledge of game engines such as Unity or Unreal.
  • A passion for games, and a background in personal or open-source game-related projects.
