Job Description

CDM Smith is seeking a DevOps Cloud Architect to join our Digital Engineering Solutions team. This individual will be part of the Development group within the Digital Engineering Solutions team, helping design and implement cloud-based solutions that facilitate CI/CD practices, utilizing infrastructure as code (IaC) tools and ensuring that software development and operations teams work collaboratively. This individual must showcase exceptional abilities in implementing cloud technology solutions for AEC initiatives that involve cutting-edge technologies. As a member of the Digital Engineering Solutions team, the Development group will also engage in research and development and provide guidance and oversight to the AEC practices at CDM Smith, engaging in new product research, testing, and the incubation of innovative ideas that arise from around the company. The ideal candidate should possess an extensive background in cloud architecture, that includes security, scaling, integration, and application migration, along with a commitment to continuous advancement and interest that drives measurable results.

Key Responsibilities:

1. A thorough understanding of cloud technologies, including design patterns, planning, configuration, and resource management in Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms.
2. Develop DevSecOps culture implementation, integration, pipeline automation as well as high- and low-level architectural analysis. Mentor development teams on pipeline best practices.
3. Design and develop the infrastructure and CICD pipeline for a range of projects in various environments in an agile way.
4. Spearhead infrastructure automation using Bicep, ARM templates, and scripting languages (PowerShell), promoting Infrastructure as Code (IaC) as a core team capability.
5. Drive adoption of infrastructure as code practices to create reusable solution patterns and templates.
6. Develop and implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems that ensure the performance and health of the system.
7. Establish standards and guidelines across cloud platforms in accordance with industry standards.
8. Establish guidelines for Azure Active Directory (AAD), RBAC, IAM configuring role assignments, conditional access, and identity management.
9. Incorporate security best practices into cloud architecture and ensure compliance with appropriate industry standards.
10. Analyze the cloud service's business needs, investigate the necessary framework, design and implement enterprise-class cloud service providing secure, scalable, and efficient solutions.
11. Engage in multidisciplinary research on complex systems including serverless, endpoints, networks, disaster recovery management system and hardware/software.
12. Collaborate with the IT operations, security and other architect teams to ensure that best practices are followed.
13. Communicate verbally and in writing with non-technical cross-functional teams.
14. Implement cost-saving measures and analyze resource utilization to optimize cloud costs.
15. Work with multi-cultural teams across different time zones.

Skills and Abilities:

1. Proficient in Microsoft Azure, with a strong foundation in system and solution design.
2. Proficient at creating high and low-level architectural diagrams for cloud environments to share with enterprise IT teams.
3. Working experience in the agile deployment of Azure resources in landing zones using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
4. Working knowledge of Git and version control systems, as well as the ability to configure CICD pipelines using Azure DevOps using Infrastructure as code.
5. Experience in recommending cost-effective Azure services depending on project requirements while maintaining performance.
6. Working knowledge of high availability system architecture, including both horizontal and vertical scaling.
7. Experience with Container Orchestration, Azure networking services such as content delivery, load balancing, network security, and cloud-native microservices architecture.
8. Proficient in the development and management of data lakes and data bricks within a sharable environment.
9. Have a solid understanding of data residency, data isolation, and data retention policies.
10. Excellent written, verbal, and diagrammatic communication skills.
11. Solid understanding of Azure Active Directory (AAD), RBAC, PIM and IAM principles, with experience in configuring role assignments, conditional access, and identity management.
12. Working knowledge of cybersecurity and networking, as well as automated security tools such as intrusion detection and prevention and vulnerability scanning.
13. Experience in creating disaster recovery strategies using industry standards and requirements for the project.
14. Strong expertise deploying, configuring, and managing Azure resources using Bicep, ARM Templates, and Terraform, as well as programming with Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
15. Proficient in critical thinking, accurate analysis, and effective decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. 8 years of relevant experience.
3. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert AZ-304/AZ-500 highly preferred.
2. Bachelor’s degree in software development, engineering, or a related specialization highly preferred.
