Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer based in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced full-stack developer to take ownership of existing production applications and build new solutions that support e-commerce and retail operations. In this hands-on role, you will work across customer-facing platforms, internal business tools, and integrations connecting multiple enterprise systems. Using technologies such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, React, Svelte, Shopify, and PostgreSQL, you will help modernize critical applications and improve the reliability of business data. You will have significant autonomy in technical decision-making, troubleshooting, and architectural improvements. As an early member of the internal software development team, you will also help establish engineering standards and shape the long-term technical direction. This opportunity is ideal for a pragmatic developer who enjoys solving complex problems, collaborating directly with stakeholders, and making a measurable operational impact.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain Shopify storefronts, custom applications, point-of-sale extensions, user interface extensions, and Shopify Functions.

  • Build and support internal web applications for product appraisal, pricing, event management, and retail operations.

  • Design, implement, and maintain integrations between Shopify, Oracle NetSuite, product catalogues, search infrastructure, and other business systems.

  • Create and maintain data pipelines and utilities that ensure reliable flows of pricing, inventory, and product catalogue information.

  • Take ownership of existing applications developed by external agencies and contractors, assessing their architecture and identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Investigate unfamiliar codebases, troubleshoot production incidents, and implement practical, maintainable solutions.

  • Audit, document, consolidate, and modernize existing applications and integrations.

  • Make architectural and implementation decisions that balance performance, maintainability, technical complexity, and business priorities.

  • Collaborate directly with internal stakeholders to understand operational challenges and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.

  • Establish pragmatic standards for software development, testing, documentation, deployment, and code quality as internal engineering capabilities grow.

Requirements
  • At least five years of professional software development experience, including senior-level ownership of production systems.

  • Strong TypeScript and JavaScript skills across frontend and backend development.

  • Production experience with React and/or Svelte/SvelteKit.

  • Backend development experience with Node.js using Express, Fastify, or comparable frameworks.

  • Hands‑on Shopify development experience, including applications, themes, and/or API integrations.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL and modern data‑access tools such as Prisma or Drizzle.

  • Proven ability to build and integrate REST and GraphQL APIs.

  • Ability to independently take over unfamiliar codebases, diagnose complex issues, and make sound technical decisions.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain architectural choices and technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Comfort working with high‑volume, business-critical e‑commerce and retail data.

  • Fluency in English for daily collaboration with teams and external partners across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

  • Residence in Canada and legal authorization to work in Canada are required.

Additional assets:

  • Experience with Shopify Polaris, App Bridge, and the broader Shopify application ecosystem.

  • Familiarity with PHP and Laravel.

  • Experience with NetSuite SuiteScript or integrations involving other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

  • Knowledge of OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or similar search technologies.

  • Experience with product information management (PIM) systems, particularly Akeneo.

  • Experience transitioning software development from external agencies to internal engineering teams.

  • Previous experience as a solo developer or embedded team member with significant technical ownership.

  • Automated testing experience using tools such as Vitest, Playwright, or PHPUnit.

  • Python scripting experience.

  • Familiarity with trading card games.

Benefits
