Position Overview
Under the direction of the Program Manager and in consultation with the Registered Nurse, the Developmental Services Worker (DSW) will utilize specialized knowledge related to intellectual disability, learning, behavioural disturbances, and interventions to provide person-directed supports for clients with a dual diagnosis. The role involves fostering self-determination, empowerment, and collaboration within an interprofessional team to develop and implement individualized, evidence-based care plans, ensuring a safe, enriching environment that promotes community inclusion and supports the physical, mental, and emotional health of clients.
Skills and Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Developmental Services Worker Diploma Program from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of a pharmacology course accepted by Providence Care.
- Preferred: Three years of experience in residential or mental health inpatient settings.
- Professional practice that aligns with the DSW Standards of Practice (2011) by the Ontario Association on Developmental Disabilities.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Develop therapeutic relationships and engage clients in directing their care.
- Perform assessments and observe client behaviors to develop positive behavior programs, collaborating with the team.
- Assist in care planning, including assessments and participation in team meetings.
- Support clients in identifying and achieving their goals, aiding recovery, and communicating progress to the team.
- Implement activities and interventions from the care plan within the scope of practice.
- Document observations and assessments, taking a lead in behavior program implementation.
