Job Summary

We are actively seeking an Animal Health Technician-DART (DART-Toxicology Technician) to join our team and continue our work while maintaining the highest standard of animal welfare in mind. As a Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology Technician (DART), you play an important role in the proper conduct of a study. You will be directly responsible for carrying out activities with animals as part of a study plan in order to assess the safety of a specified drug. Working closely with Team Leaders, your fellow technicians, and Study Directors, you will collect data from ongoing studies and report on observations and findings.

General Responsibilities

  • Sets up animal rooms for DART studies (including supplies and equipment).
  • Performs activities related to general animal husbandry: animal handling, feeding, and ensuring maintenance of a clean and healthy environment.
  • Administers therapeutic agents through various routes.
  • Collects biological samples (ex. blood).
  • Participates in training to develop advanced animal-related competencies.
  • Collects biometric data on DART studies.
  • Records and reports changes in animal health through observed clinical signs.
  • Uses, maintains, and calibrates equipment.
  • Keeps meticulous daily records and adheres to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and GLPs.
  • Reports any unforeseen issues immediately to the Team Leader and Veterinarian Services.
  • Performs any other study-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience with the in-life setup and conduct of DART (developmental and reproductive toxicology) studies (segments I, II, and III) in addition to experience in identifying abnormal lesions of the female reproductive system and fetal malformations (visceral, skeletal, etc.).
  • College diploma in Animal Health Technology, or a college diploma or bachelor’s degree in Science, Biology, Biotechnology, Veterinary, Nursing, or equivalent.
  • Experience in handling animals is a definite asset.
  • Experience in a laboratory or other scientific environment is a plus.
  • Must be available to work full time: 37.5 hours/week.
  • Able to work flexible timelines and additional hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and carry weight up to/around 20kg (44 lbs).
  • Must have good attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and a high sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to read and write in English; bilingualism is an asset.
